This represents the long drop from the tree trunk and the other guys being afraid.

This represents Finny and Gene wrestling (before dinner)

This is the school they attend, Devon School

This is the Finny and Gene's group of friends.

This is the branch which they jumped from.

This is Finny (left) and Gene (right), being best friends.
I first came into the story during the flashback of my best friend Gene. My name is Finny, welcome to my blog. I always had the good ideas, the rest of my guy friends seemed to never have any crazy ideas. Nothing was intimidating to me, and even if I felt it was, obviously I wouldn't tell them. "Phineas in those days almost always moved in groups the size of a hockey team" (7). All of the older guys, about 17, jumped from the tall tree with a long limb extending above the water. I believed if they could do it, then why couldn't I? I was going to be the first obviously, but the rest of them were going to have to do it as well. It represented that the older guys were ready to fight in the war, while everyone else in my grade was still playing tag. It was pathetic. I wanted to be at that higher level. Of coarse when we attempted it, none of them wanted to go first. It felt Great! "Here's my contribution to the war effort"(8)! That is what I said right before I jumped. I felt alive, and I enjoy living my life like that. None of the guys looked too thrilled about having to go now. My buddy Gene of coarse I knew couldn't resist if I shamed him into it. He did good, I have to admit. Leper-Lepellier said "I think that was better than Finny's" (9). I had to disagree with that statement and offer him to attempt the jump. Obviously he backed down, which proved he was just too afraid to jump himself. They all were too afraid of "...school regulations, the danger of stomach cramps. physical disabilities they had never mentioned before" (10). Afterwards Gene and I each felt like two seigneurs as we walked away from the others. I told him he did good once I shamed it upon him, and he became extremely defensive, though he knew in reality that it was the truth. We continued walking when suddenly the dinner bell began to ring. Each of us knew we were late. I noticed he began to walk with his 'West Point stride' and then I had an idea. I tripped him because I knew he was anxious to not be late, and that it would make him upset. He was not expecting it and I knew I had him pinned. We stood up and continued to dinner, with him still walking with his 'West Point stride'. This time, he showed me as he instantly knocked me down with his hip. This pleased me to see this side of him. We struggled with equality until we realized how late we were for dinner. Then we both ended it and hurried. We noticed how late we were as we walked through the hall ways and no one was to be found in any of the rooms. After everyone went through the same routine of doing homework and having to hear the seniors come in later than everyone else. That sound taunted me. Then pajama time, and I didn't feel like it. So then it was bedtime.
